Almond Cookies


we start finally with CHristmas recipes!

and this recipes, Almond Cookies, is a special recipe in Sicily with a story.

It is an ancient recipe from 1100 age and it borns in a convent, near Palermo, Martorana convent. So this cookies name is also Martorana cookies or Pasta Reale (royal dough) because it was worthy of a King for the goodness and the characteristics of the dessert.

The procedure is very simple and you need just few ingredients.

I like to prepare it and place in a Christmas box as gift for my friends.

  • 500 gr/3 cups+ 2 tbsp Almond Flour

  • 350 gr/1.5 cups + 4 tbsp Powdered Sugar

  • 1 grated Lemon Zest

  • some drops Almond extract

  • 80 gr/ 3 eggs whites

  • Almonds or holiday fruit to decorate


  • place in a bowl the flour, the sugar, the grated lemon zest, some drops Almond extract and the egg whites

  • mix for 1 minutes

  • prepare little balls and spread with powder sugar

  • place in a baking pan and put on top a holiday fruit or an almond.

  • leave in a refrigeratore for 30 minutes.

  • bake at 350F for max 10 minutes.

  • leave to cold down for 1 hour.
